How long does my video have to be?
5 minutes showing what your SHOW will be about (be creative) or 5 minutes from a past performance (if you already have a solo show) or 5 minutes stand up comedy set (continuous set no highlight reel). Please refer to the Submission Rules page for more information.
What kind of shows are you looking for?
Autobiographies, stand up comedy, dramedy, musical comedy, storytelling, magic, interactive, multi-media, spoken word, poetry, physical theater, burlesque, dance, storytelling, etc. It can be a combination of the above.

When will performers know if they are selected?
Performers will be notified via email ON FEBRUARY 28TH and we will also post it on our website.
Is this a Comedy Competition?
No, all the shows are showcase style shows. However we have awards for:

BREAKOUT SOLO SHOW
NBC CWA AUDIENCE AWARD/BEST OF FEST FINAL SHOWCASE IS ON 5/31. These 2 awards will be given out that night.
Award show will be in June, 2020 venue TBA.
Will there be any kind of support group for the comedians to workshop their solo shows together?
YES! This year we will have a bi-weekly community group for the performers and comedians to bounce jokes, characters, pages of dialogue, stand up set off each other so you can HELP EACH OTHER BUILD OR POLISH YOUR SOLO SHOWS.
What kind of industry will be at the Festival?
CWASPF will have agents, managers, casting directors and bookers in attendance. We will have Industry panels free of charge to performers. Performers will receive VIP comps to invite their industry guests to see their shows. How many shows will I get to perform on if I'm selected?
Selected performers will get to perform at 1-2 shows while at the festival.
How long can a show be?
A show can be 30 to 50 minutes in length.
Will there be any technical rehearsals in the space?
Performer will be assigned ONE 2 hours technical rehearsal dates at the performance venue in May, 2020. Please contact George the technical manager ASAP once you receive your assigned SHOW DATE(S) on March 9th. George will run a lot of the shows and another technician maybe assigned to each performer and he/she will run the sound and lights during the tech rehearsal and performance(s). (Performer has the option to employ his/her own technical manager to run the show).
Are props and sets allowed?
Performer are encouraged to have basic set and prop pieces on stage since there will be a quick strike for the show before or after your performance. There will be a running crew assisting in setting up and striking set.
What kind of publicity will performer receive?
Performer's name and show info will be posted on Santa Monica Playhouse and Crazy Woke Asians' website, included in all press releases and submitted for press interview, show flyers on CWA social media. *Performer is required to participate in a publicity promo video and photoshoot in March/April, 2020. Performer is responsible for submitting the requested promotional materials such as SHOW FLYER by deadline on Monday, March 23rd. *See 2019 Performers for Show Flyer samples.
Are there any guest spots if my show is not selected?
Yes, we have comedians hosting some of the shows. Email if you would like to be considered.
What kind of workshops and Q&A's will there be?
We will have an industry panel (Innovative Artists, more TBA), and a improvisation/writing workshop taught by Peter Kim (Second City Chicago, UCB).
Do the workshop and panel cost money?
Workshop and panel are free for Festival Performers and anyone who paid the submission fee for the Festival. Limited seating available. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your spot by Sunday, May 17th. If you happen to be not a festival comedian/performer you can still attend any workshop for a small Fee.
OTHER WAYS TO GET INVOLVED
We support each and every one of you and we hope that you will apply again if not accepted this time around. We encourage you to attend the festival regardless of your acceptance status if it’s feasible for you. All applicants, regardless of acceptance status, will be given a stand-by pass to the festival and free access to panels and parties. We are seeking onsite volunteers for our production team (red carpet opening night, ushers/greeters, closing night party, running crew) during the festival, which is a great way to get a behind-the-scenes feel for what goes on at CWASPF and is a great way to get to know other comedians.
We are also seeking interns and volunteers to be part of our festival planning committee! If you got skills in MARKETING, GRAPHIC DESIGN, FUNDRAISING, etc we would love to here from you!
