Comedian Kazu Kusano is a playful Japanese imp. She is also a good dancer – in her opinion. Kazu moves like a child in a playground, and her silly, yet dark comedy makes everything laughable, from her accent to Geishas, and even Nagasaki. She shatters the stereotype of the demur Asian woman. Her comedy is not only about culture, but brutally personal. Born in Japan, raised by a schizophrenic mom and an oil-tanker crew dad, Kazu shares the humor she found in her dysfunctional family. Married to a Jewish computer nerd and mind-reader, she currently resides in Los Angeles.

Kazu is the undefeated champion of Joke-E-Oke, the joke karaoke contest at SF Sketchfest. Beyond that, she performed at Asiafest in Adelaide, Australia by invitation with her one woman show and trio show, Karate Chop Teriyaki Comedy.

A child class clown, Kazu was obsessed with impersonating Japanese comedy troupe, The Drifters/
ザ・ドリフターズ. Every day, her teachers and classmates told her, “Be quiet, you are a girl!” Nevertheless she persisted. Later, Kazu fell in love with improvisational comedy and became a main company member of Theater Sports Japan. When she watchedEddie Murphy and Whoopi Goldberg, she was shocked that you can be funny and cool at the same time. Then, she decided to pursue comedy in America.
